Masters Swimming Queensland is introducing multiclass competition progressively to masters meets. Here is a brief guide to our current setup.

In the future these instructions will be incorporated into the standard Meet Recording Timeline for use by all clubs when operating meets.

Basic Principles

  • Masters multiclass competitors want to swim in the same heats as all other competitors.
  • Meet Manager does not report disability athlete results in standard masters age group result reports. This means to get the multiclass competitors results printed their results need to be moved to a disability event.
  • In order to allow multiclass competitors to swim in standard heats but get separate results:
    • We have two events in Meet Manager for each actual event, one Standard, one Multi-class(denoted by an 'A' suffix on the event number)
    • Multiclass athletes have two entries for each event, one in the Standard event and one in the Multi-class event.
    • The multiclass athlete's result will not be listed in the Results report on the standard event.
    • The multiclass athlete's result needs to be manually copied from the standard event to the multiclass event, once all results are copied Score the event.
    • This current process is not scalable for large numbers of multi-class competitors but for current numbers it's fine.

Future State

These points below represent a planned future state that is currently a work in progress.

  • A custom reporting tool will be built to enable one results report to be printed containing both standard and multi-class results without requiring extra manual steps.
  • True multi-class scoring will be enabled with the establishment of time standards.

Procedure - Setup

  1. In Meet Manager, select the Set-up menu, then the Entry/Scoring Preferences option.
  2. Select the Disability tab.
  3. Under Paralympic Point System, select Australian Paralympic Points. Click Ok
  4. Select the Events menu.
  5. Select the Add menu option.
  6. For each event in the program, create a new event with matching details, except for setting the Event Type to Multi-Class. Use a suffix for the event number. i.e. Event 1 is the standard event, Event 1A is the multiclass event.
  7. In the Athletes menu, locate each multiclass competitor.
  8. Double click on the competitor row to open the Athlete Edit window.
  9. Under Status change the athlete status from Normal to Disabled
  10. In the Disability fields, enter the athlete's supplied classification information. For instance S14, SB14, SM14.
  11. For each event in the competitor's Entries, tick the checkbox beside the multiclass event and copy the seed time from the standard event.
  12. Click Ok
  13. Repeat for all multiclass competitors
  14. Select the Seeding Menu option
  15. Select only the multi-class events.
  16. Click Start Seeding.

Procedure - On The Day

Operate the meet as per normal, only running the standard events in the timing system.

  1. After the close of each standard event, open the multi-class event in the Run window.
  2. The multi-class athletes will be listed in the heat, copy across their final time from the standard event heat they were in.
  3. Once all multi-class athlete final times have been entered, click Score to produce the Results Report.
